Haifa City
Haifa Bay (Source: Uri Ashkenazy, Wikimedia)Haifa is the northern port of Israel, located 80 km from Tel-Aviv and 145 km from Jerusalem.

Haifa with its picturesque setting covers the slopes and top of Mount Carmel and overlooks a breathtaking harbor with steeply-terraced urban landscapes, nature reserves, and religious sites (including the Bahai Religion’s primary Temple with its gold dome).

Haifa is Israel’s third largest city of over 275,000 people. It is the city where a unique model for co-existence thrives, with Jewish, Moslem, Christian, Druze and Bahai communities intermingling and residing side by side in long-term peace.

The picture above shows a view of Haifa Bay as seen from Mount Carmel (click for source file). A map of Haifa and region can be found here.

Transportation
From Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv (Israel’s only international airport) to Haifa: Train is the best option and runs all night (not frequently and not on the Sabbath).  The closest station to the conference hotels is Haifa Center HaShmona and you will need to take a cab from there.  The cost of a single train ticket between Ben Gurion Airport and Haifa is 39.50 NIS (approximately 11 USD) and tickets can be purchased at the station.  Click here to plan your train journey.

You may also choose a shared taxi (“sherut” or “service” taxi) or a private taxi service.

Shared taxis:
Between airport and Haifa: Amal taxis (+972-4-8662324): 119 NIS per person.  There is no need to book on the way to Haifa.  Ask at the airport for a shared taxi (“sherut”) to Haifa and you will be directed.  To travel from Haifa to the airport, booking is required but orders will not be taken more than a few days in advance.  The local organizers can assist with booking this service for you – come and ask us during the conference.
Between airport and Jerusalem:  Nesher taxis.  The cost is around 65 NIS per person.

There is no shared taxi service to/from Tel Aviv, but the train takes around 20-25 minutes and is very accessible from the city.  A private taxi between Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion airport will cost 120-150 NIS (depending on day/time) – best to use the Hadar company (+972-3-9711103).
